2009 Panther Feast

Every year, the Panther football program's Booster club puts on a Panther Feast to kick off the year's football season. The night starts off with a dinner and concludes with everyone going to the football field to hear the players, cheerleaders, and coaches be introduced. This was my second year to attend the Panther Feast! Here are a few pictures from the night!

I am getting VERY excited for the high school season to begin! Our first game is Friday!

GOOOO Panthers!

Bindi Lee & Aubrey

This is a quick update about Bindi! Bindi is the puppy that I got back in January! She will be 1 year old on September 30th. When I first got her she looked like this:

Now she looks like this:

Bindi has really added a lot to our small little (haha) family. We are still working on perfecting potty training, but she is doing better! Her new thing is tearing up paper or anything she can destroy that is left on the floor. Here is a little example... Back in early spring FBC Hohenwald gave out audio CD's on the New Testament. I had left the CD in a small basket with our other CD's by the computer. Here is what the CD case looked like the other day once Bindi got a hold of it:
When I was talking to my mom about it she mentioned that we should take a hint from Bindi and really try to "eat and digest The Word"! :)

Aubrey Grace is so funny with Bindi. Bindi does really good around her, but Aubrey still isn't too sure of Bindi. Before Aubrey was talking, Bindi would get near her and she would get scared. In order to make her feel better and laugh, everyone would start pointing their finger at Bindi and say, "No, no Bindi". (Don't worry Bindi didn't seem to care because it was not said in a stern way.) Aubrey loved when we pointed and said "no no Bindi", so she started shaking her finger at Bindi. One day, Paula, (Aubrey's mom and my sister in law) was looking at a book with Aubrey. Before she opened the book Aubrey started shaking her finger at the cover saying "no no". Finally Paula realized that she thought the red fox on the front cover was Bindi. Here is a picture of the fox: The only similarity I can think are the ears?!?!

Here is my sweet little Miss Aubrey Grace looking "cool" while we were shopping! I just love being an aunt!

Angel Food Cake

I am really on a cooking kick right now (and blogging kick)! Not really sure how long this phase will last, but for the time being Barrett is LOVING it (the cooking part)! :) I made a great Angel Food Cake for my mother-in-law's birthday! Everyone seemed to really enjoy it, so I wanted to share the recipe!

These are the items you will need:
  • 1 pkg (16oz) angel food cake mix (or you can buy one already made like I did! :) )
  • 24 large marshmallows
  • 6 milk choc. candy bars with almonds (1.45 oz each) chopped (I used 2 large bars)
  • 2/3 cup milk
  • 1 large carton of frozen whipped topping, thawed and divided
Directions:

Bake cake by directions, use 10" tube pan - cool. I simply bought an already made Angel Food cake as a short cut! In small sauce pan, combine marshmallows, chopped candy bars and milk. Stir over low heat until marshmallows melt. Transfer to small bowl and cool to room temperature. Fold in 1/2 cool whip. Cut Angel Food cake into 3 layers. Spread filling in between layers and use remaining to frost cake. Refrigerate for 1 hour. Frost top and sides with remaining whipped topping.

ENJOY!!!!

Update on the Veggies

Here is an update on the tomatoes and cucumbers! The leaves are starting to look rough, but the veggies are hanging on! I hope to be enjoying home grown tomatoes and cucumbers soon!

Around Our House

Here is a glimpse of random things around our house! It is hard to believe we have lived in Tennessee for over a year!

These are kitchen canisters that my Granny had in her kitchen for YEARS! I remember them being in her kitchen when I was little. She passed them on to me when I got married and I LOVE them!
I LOVE Elvis! This is our Elvis calendar in the kitchen!
This is our bedroom. Bindi Lee actually stayed put for the picture!
This is a little "set up" under one of the side tables in our bedroom!
These are Barrett's jerseys from playing football at Alabama. We have them in our Alabama guest room! The crimson jersey is from the Cotton Bowl and the white jersey is from the Music City Bowl.
This is the Alabama clock in the guest room. My brother gave me the "Bama Blvd" sign for Christmas and underneath is a team picture from when I played volleyball at Alabama!

Hope you enjoyed a tiny glimpse of a few random things in our house!

Football Fridays

Tonight was the Panther's first football scrimmage of the Fall 2009 football season! I LOVE football, and I especially LOVE watching one particular assistant coach :)! I was excited to leave work, run by Sonic to get my favorite drink (Diet Coke with Lemon), let Bindi out, and head to the football field! It has been awesome to watch Barrett grow from being a player himself, to now coaching.

I definitely think he has a gift and the high school guys seem to really look up to him. Even though I really enjoy the football games, it is bitter-sweet for football season to start. During the season Barrett's weekends are almost completely consumed except for Sunday. He usually doesn't make it in on Friday nights until 2 or 3 in the morning and he has to go back up to the school on Saturday from 8am until 3pm to watch film for the next weeks opponent. By the time Sunday rolls around I am definitely needing time with my husband! My mom gave me the cutest little wall plaque that we have hanging in our living room. It really sums up being a coaches wife:

Stay tuned to the blog for updates about the Panther's football season! In the mean time, here is a picture of Barrett in action last year! :)
