Monday's Song

This is the song I played several times today to help me get through my Monday. Such a blessing, so I wanted to share!

Mighty to Save

Everyone needs compassion,
Love that's never failing;
Let mercy fall on me.
Everyone needs forgiveness,
The kindness of a Savior;
The Hope of nations.

Savior, He can move the mountains,
My God is Mighty to save,
He is Mighty to save.
Forever, Author of salvation,
He rose and conquered the grave,
Jesus conquered the grave.

So take me as You find me,
All my fears and failures,
Fill my life again.
I give my life to follow
Everything I believe in,
Now I surrender.

My Savior, He can move the mountains,
My God is Mighty to save,
He is Mighty to save.
Forever, Author of salvation,
He rose and conquered the grave,
Jesus conquered the grave.

Shine your light and let the whole world see,
We're singing for the glory of the risen King...Jesus

My Savior, He can move the mountains,
My God is Mighty to save,
He is Mighty to save.
Forever, Author of salvation,
He rose and conquered the grave,
Jesus conquered the grave.

Lewis County Fair

I could not wait to share my experience of going to Lewis County's fair (a.k.a. South Central Fair). First, I need to preface by saying, the fair I have been use to is the State Fair of Texas in Dallas. For those who are familiar with the State Fair of Texas, you know the fair goes on for several weeks and is HUGE! I knew the Lewis County fair was going to be very different from the fair I was use to, but that gave me even more reason to want to experience it! The fair here only goes for 6 days, and is located at the Hohenwald Park. Each night there is a different "event" that is the "featured event". Here is the nightly agenda for this year's fair:

  • Monday night - Beauty Pageants (including Fairest of the Fair:))
  • Tuesday night - ?? - I just know I could hear Lynard Skynard music from our front yard.
  • Wednesday night - Family Night and concert with a local band
  • Thursday night - Tractor Pull (no comment)
  • **Friday & Saturday night - Demolition Derby**

I have put **'s by Friday and Saturday because this was the night I went to the fair, so this was the event I attended. Let me first say, I have NEVER IN MY LIFE been to a Demolition Derby!!! I had no clue what the point was, but a 6 year old boy sitting near me quickly filled me in on the rules! I have never seen junkier (is that a word?) cars in all my life. For those of you who have not had the privilege of experiencing a Demolition Derby, the goal is to be the last car running or driving, and the strategy is to RAM into the other cars. To say the least, I was a nervous wreck, because I was scared someone was going to get hurt. I am sure that I don't need to give a description of the different dynamics of the crowd, but I will tell you there was an elderly couple on the front row (in their 80's) and another lady sitting around us had a baby that could not have been more than a month old!?! It was quite an experience! Here are a few pictures of the Demolition Derby:

This was a view from the top of the Ferris Wheel.

Crunch! (Please note the firemen in all the pictures)

Yep, that is smoke. I can still here the announcer saying, "There's a fir, there's a fir!" (fire)

And again! :)

I even shot a quick video! :)

I have to say, similar to the State Fair of Texas, the best part of Lewis County's fair was the food. I had chicken on a stick, a caramel apple, and tried some of Barrett's funnel cake. YUMMY!

Overall, I am glad that I went to the Lewis County Fair. I may have to make it an annual tradition!
Ha ha :)

Football Game #2

Well, we had our first home game on Friday night against the Collinwood Trojans. I had a shirt made before the game! Here is my new shirt!

Please note the AWESOME watch in the picture! My sweet brother sent me a surprise gift in the mail and it was this yellow watch to help me show my PANTHER PRIDE! Thanks Reid!

Since it was the first home game I bought the Lewis County football program for the 2009 season. It is full of ads for the businesses around town, and it also includes messages for the players and cheerleaders from their families and friends. Here is one of the pictures and messages in the program!

Here is the promised game sign by the cheerleaders for game 2:

It says, "Panthers say jump Trojans say how high!"

The team running out!

The game started off and we were able to score the first touchdown in the first quarter. The Trojans did not answer our touchdown until right before half time. However, the Trojans started the third quarter by getting a safety after our center snapped the ball over our punters head. The Trojans scored again in the fourth quarter with 2 minutes left. The Panthers quickly went to work and were able to score with only 47 seconds left in the game, making the score 13-15. After getting the on-side kick, our offense worked really hard, but ultimately was unable to pull out a victory. It was a hard loss, but the guys showed a lot of heart at the end of the game. Next week's opponent is Page at home. It looks to be a tough game, but hopefully the Panther's will be able to pull out the first win of the season!

My parent's dog Elle loves warm clothes or towels straight from the dryer....

My brother's roommate's dog, Bentley, also loves clothes or towels straight from the dryer...

And you guessed it, our puppy Bindi loves clothes or towels straight from the dryer...

Green Thumb?!?

I haven't posted an update on the veggies in awhile. One of the main reasons is (I am sad to say), the cucumber plant did not make it! I have definitely learned the hard way to recognize when a cucumber is ripe. We simply waited too long to pick the cucumbers and they all turned yellow and the leaves died. However, I am proud to say one side of our tomato plants is really starting to produce tomatoes. Today I counted not only 22 assorted sized green bulbs, but a RIPE RED TOMATO!!!

Well, it's almost ripe..ha ha! I had to pose with my cute little tomato! I'm so proud!

Missing my Family

I have really been missing my family the last couple of weeks. I talk to Mom and Dad every day, and I usually talk to my brother at least 3-4 times a week! It makes me wonder how much more difficult it would be if we didn't have cell phones and good cell phone plans to keep in touch! Don't get me wrong, Tennessee has been good to us, but there is just something about TEXAS! :)

I have been meaning to share pictures from our family trip we took during the 4th of July! We all decided we should try to meet in Arkansas because it is half way between TN and TX. We stayed at a condo on Lake Catherine in Hot Springs. To say the least, we had a great time and all wished the weekend was longer! Here are a few of the pictures!

This is the view from the back porch of the condo!

Me and Dad in front of one of the bath houses in downtown Hot Springs.

Me and Nana in front of the bath house!

Nana, Dad (Elle), and Reid!

My little brother! :)

Reid and B!

Mom and Reid on the top level of the viewing tower.

Dad's first dive off a diving board in 30 years!!! Great form!!!

Nana with grand kids and hubby!

My family and Elle Belle.

Everybody but B!

Now everybody but Nana! :)

Starting off the Season (Game #1)

Last night was the first football game of the 2009 season. The game was away against the Mt. Pleasant Tigers.

It was (to say the least) a pretty exciting game, and to top it off, the weather was fabulous!

One of my favorite parts of the game is seeing the cheerleader's signs say at the beginning of every game, so I am going to try and take a picture every week. Here is what the sign looked like this week:

(It says, "Tigers...We're the bomb like tick tock!")

When the game started the sun was BLINDING!!!! Here is a picture of what the view looked like from my seat!

Now onto the details of the ball game... It was a nail biter to the end. We had the lead 15-14 up until the last minute of the game, but simply couldn't pull it out. Mt. Pleasant scored a touchdown with less than one minute left. The final score of the game was 22-15.

Not a fun way to start the season, but hopefully we can visit the "win column" next week!
