8/10/12 Friday’s Doctor’s Appointment
Friday was my doctor’s appointment to check measurements of Lennox before my scheduled induction on Wednesday, August 15th (of course, this was all if he didn’t come on his own before then). Mom and Dad had been in town for the week, so they joined me at the appointment. I knew when they scheduled the appointment for me on Monday that the receptionist had made a comment that they wanted me at their office location near the hospital where I was going to deliver “in case they go ahead and send you to labor and delivery on Friday”. I didn’t really think this would happen. Mom told me to go ahead and put my bag in the car just in case, but we already made plans after the doctor’s appointment to do some shopping around and also go to lunch.
My appointment was first thing that morning at 8:40am. I was going to be seeing a third doctor because my original doctor was still out of town and my backup doctor didn’t work on Fridays. They took my weight and I had gained 3 pounds since my appointment on Monday (this still puts my entire pregnancy weight gain to 23 pounds because toward the end I was up and down quite a bit). The nurse took my blood pressure and it was elevated again (141/97), so I automatically started thinking that they might go ahead and put in at labor and delivery, but I wasn’t certain. The next step was the ultrasound to check little man. The doctor that I was seeing went ahead and came in the room during the ultrasound. It wasn’t a minute into the ultrasound that the doctor asked me, “well do you want to have a baby today”? Then he started explaining to me that my fluid level was looking low and it would really be a good idea to go in today to have our baby. At that point I guess I wasn’t too surprised – I had been preparing myself when my blood pressure was high, but now it was a definite possibility we were going to be having our baby!!! The doctor said he wanted to go ahead and do a cervical check and see how I was progressing. He said Lennox’s head was really low and I was between about a 3 dilated. He told me that I was definitely ready and there was no reason to not go to labor and delivery to have our baby!
As soon as the doctor left the room I called Barrett and told him he needed to leave school, and get his and Lennox’s bags from the house and head to the hospital because we were having our baby today! When I was talking to him he sounded excited and not too nervous, but little did I know after we got off the phone he panicked just a little! I always thought that the whole escort you to labor and delivery in a wheelchair only happened in the movies, but when I left the ultrasound room two of the nurses had a wheelchair ready to wheel me over to labor and delivery. Mom and Dad followed behind and so began the journey to meet our little one…
